Unfreezing an iPad requires checking the power source and charge before using the power button. The entire process should take no longer than a few minutes.
- Check the power
Look at the battery charge icon in the upper right hand corner of the iPad screen. Check to find out if the charge shows less than a 5-percent charge. If below 5 percent, plug the charger into the iPad and an electrical outlet.
- Troubleshoot the application
Recall the last app used on the iPad, and determine if it is still open and displayed on the screen. If so, press and hold the home button at the bottom of the iPad screen for 15 seconds, which may unfreeze the iPad.
- Turn the iPad off
Press and hold the power button on the top right corner of the iPad. Hold until a slider bar appears at the top of the screen. Slide the red circle to the left to power off the iPad.
- Wait and reboot
Wait for the spinning circle in the center of the screen of the iPad to stop and disappear, which indicates that the iPad is completely off. Wait 10 seconds before pressing and holding the power button for one to two seconds until the Apple icon appears on the screen.
- Test the reboot
Select any app, pressing its icon to open it. Once you successfully open an app, it confirms that the iPad is unfrozen.
