Tumblr was released to the public in February 2007. The website began development in 2006 as a project to create a blogging platform focused on short-form blogs called tumbleblogs. Initial development was completed by the founder of Tumblr, David Karp, and a developer named Maro Arment.
Tumblr signed up approximately 75,000 users in its first two weeks. The website was acquired by Yahoo for $1.1 billion on May 20, 2013. Some of the features that are available on Tumblr are a dashboard and post tags for blog management. As of December 2014, Tumblr is available in 13 languages and is headquartered in New York City.
