Track a phone using Google Maps by using the Google Latitude feature. The pre-requisite for the tracking of a phone is that it needs to have the ability to run the Google Maps application to broadcast its location for tracking.
To use the Google Latitude feature, browse to the Google website and navigate to the Google Latitude Web page. Next, log into a Google account using the same credentials used in Google services such as Gmail and Google Docs. On the left side of the Web page, click the Add Friends link. In the drop menu at the top of the dialog box, click the All Contacts option.
To search the contact data of the person whose phone needs tracking, scroll through the list. A blue icon adjacent to the contact name indicates that the individual is using the Google Latitude feature already. To add the contact, click the Add link. Clicking the link sends a request to the contact. Until the contact accepts the request, tracking does not start.
Next, click the Friends tab on the Google Latitude Web page. It then displays a Google Map on the right. The Latitude friend list is available on the left side of the map. Click the desired name to track the location of the cellphone on Google Maps. The History tab on the Google Latitude Web page displays the distance covered.
