As of 2014, Toshiba laptops are produced in Hangzhou, China. The corporation transferred laptop manufacturing operations from the Philippines and Shanghai, China to Hangzhou, China.
Toshiba produced Japan's first laptop computer in 1986, the country's first TAC digital computer in 1954 and first Libretto sub-notebook personal computer in 1996. It was the world's fifth-largest personal computer vendor in 2010.
The corporation originated in Japan and was founded in 1939 when Shibaura Seisaku-sho and Tokyo Denki merged. Toshiba's headquarters remain in Japan, and the corporation has operations around the world involved in numerous fields including consumer electronics, home appliances, medical equipment, railway systems and nuclear reactors.
