When installing an HP printer, including HP Deskjet, OfficeJet and Photosmart models, use the driver type appropriate for your needs and apply the built-in printer driver included in Windows operating systems if the desired driver isn't available on HP.com. Use the Printer Install Wizard tool that facilitates the installation process by automatically selecting the necessary driver for your printer.
After initiating the installation process and being prompted to select a connection type, choose the USB, network or wireless option as appropriate for your printer. If you’re using a wireless HP printer, installation software can automatically configure the wireless settings; otherwise, follow the on-screen instructions. If the installation software cannot detect the printer on the network, specify the printer's assigned IP address manually by accessing the Advanced Search section. To find the necessary IP address, find it on the display after pressing the wireless button or by printing the network configuration page.
For printers that use a USB connection, restart the computer and printer if the installation process fails to detect the device. Alternatively, connect the printer to a different USB port, and disconnect other USB devices. When choosing which printer driver to install, select the full-feature version to access full printer functionality, including image editing and printer management software, or choose the basic version if you don't care about extra functionality and want to use a smaller installation file.
