What Are Three Network Operating Systems?

Three well-known networking operating systems are Microsoft Windows Server, Novell Netware and Artisoft LANtastic. NOS stands for network operating system, and this software enhances basic functions on operating systems. The system operates over a server and helps manage security, user profiles, data, applications and other networking functions.

A NOS is designed to enable certain functions, such as printer access and file sharing, among multiple computers on a network. The network is generally a private network or a local area network. The NOS offers specialized functions for each connected device and computer. There are a couple operating systems, such as Mac OS and UNIX, that provide a built-in networking functions.
