A tablet is a thin, portable touch screen computer for browsing the Web or using any number of applications. It usually doesn't come with a keyboard, although people can buy them separately as add-ons for some models. The Apple iPad works by only requiring people to use finger gestures to operate it.
Tablets have their own mobile versions of operating systems and productivity suite apps, to enable users to send and receive email and work in common software like Microsoft Office. Everything has been specially built for the tablet for expediency. Tablets may also come with front- and rear-facing cameras, just like a smartphone.
