The policy allows a maximum of two approved claims within a 12-month period for claims of accidental damage. There is no limit for approved claims for mechanical breakdown.

T-mobile does its best to replace the insured device with a new one, but the replacement may be a similar reconditioned device. If a reconditioned device is not available, the replacement is a new device of like type and quality, and it comes with a six-month warranty.

T-Mobile receives compensation for the amount the insured party pays each month. A nonrefundable deductible, depending on the device, applies to each approved accidental damage, loss and theft claim. A $5 processing fee applies for each approved mechanical or electrical breakdown claim, as of July 2015. The user must return the damaged or malfunctioning device within 10 days of receipt of the replacement device, otherwise he must pay an unrecovered equipment fee.

The insurance does not cover losses resulting from the following: corrosion, pre-existing conditions, failure to follow manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations, intentional or dishonest acts, repair or service, power fluctuations, delay or loss of market, loss of income or interruption of business, and inherent design defects.
