Straight Talk network phones are not unlocked as of 2015. Tracfone Wireless Inc., the owner of Straight Talk, does have plans to make its mobile devices more easily unlocked in the future.
Unlocking cellphones is deemed legal by the FCC. Even though Straight Talk phones don't come unlocked from the factory, customers can unlock them. Straight Talk's policy as of 2015 states that any phone bought after January 2014 can be unlocked only after 12 months from the original purchase date. Customers can, therefore, ask Straight Talk to unlock their phones by calling the customer service and support line, if phones were purchased after that date. Otherwise, customers can search for online tutorials on how to manually unlock their phones.
