"Stay-at-home mom" blogs are blogs written by mothers who stay at home to raise their children rather than holding down paid jobs. As Jennifer Fulwiler of National Catholic Register makes clear, these blogs often allow the moms to self-identify as writers rather than just as moms, allowing them to feel less awkward socially. Moms use these blogs to connect with one another and share parenting tips and encouragement.
Many stay-at-home mom blogs specialize in subtopics of interest to their readers. Topics covered by so-called mommy bloggers include living on a budget, fitness, home schooling, parenting twins, post-partum depression, parenting special needs children and traveling with children.
Among popular stay-at-home mom blogs are A Spoonful of Spit Up, a humor blog written by a mom of an infant son; The Girly Reports, a blog focusing on personal discovery, eating issues and parenting struggles; Do It All Mom Blogs, which talks about parenting tips and DIY projects; and Leapfrog and Lipgloss, a blog that teams beauty product reviews with parenting advice. Stay-at-home mom blogs with a more educational bent include Developing the Whole Child, which focuses on hands-on activities and the importance of play, and Stay at Home Mom Survival Guide, which provides activities and tips for the stay-at-home mom.
