Animation artists Kyra Buschor, Constantin Paeplow and Anna Habermehl originally developed the concept of "Rollin' Safari" as a student film project in 2011. They were studying 3D animation at the time at the Filmakademie of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Initially, the characters were drawn with Adobe Photoshop, while 3D-rendering and shading was accomplished with software like ZBrush, 3DCoat, Maya, MentalCore and NUKE. The series started as four clips, but the creators decided to expand due to widespread popularity. "Rollin' Safari" has led to multiple awards for the creators, producers and animators, as well as the school they attended. Bushor and Paeplow formed a company called Flying Stone with producer Philip Wolf and created a website called "Rollin' Wild" dedicated to their animation.
