The Start icon for Windows 8 is located in the lower left portion of the screen, and it can also be accessed by pressing the Windows key on the keyboard. On a touchscreen monitor, a Start icon appears when the user swipes in from the right edge of the display.
Right clicking on the Start icon displays power options, the Device Manager, the Control Panel and the Task Manager.
The Start screen in Windows 8 replaces the functionality of the previous Start menu. The same programs that previously were accessible by pressing the Start menu now are apps on the main Start screen.
