What Is Skype?

Skype is a video chatting and voice call software that works on desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, and some televisions. It requires an Internet connection, a web cam, and a microphone to use. It also functions as a simple chat messaging tool similar to AOL instant messenger or Google Chat.

Skype requires users to set up a personal account to connect with others, but voice chatting, video calling, and instant messaging to another computer are all free. Skype does not require users to provide any credit card information. Skype also offers some fee-based services that allow users to use Skype to contact landline and mobile phones or send text messages to phones.
