To set up a Netgear wireless router, connect the router to your DSL or cable modem, and connect the router to your computer via Ethernet cable. Install the latest software on your computer with the CD that came with the router, or download the latest software.
- Choose a location for the router
Place the router in a location that is at least a few feet off of the ground and near the location where you plan to access wireless Internet the most. Connect the router to its included stand.
- Connect the router to your Internet modem
Grab the Ethernet cable that is plugged in to your DSL or cable modem, and connect the other end of the cable to the main Internet port on the router.
- Connect the router to your computer, and plug in the power adapter
Grab the extra Ethernet cable from the router's retail box. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the first LAN port on the router. Connect the other end of the cable to an open LAN port on your computer. Connect the power adapter to the router, and plug the power adapter in an electrical outlet.
- Install the latest drivers
Locate the Resource CD that came with your router. Insert the CD in the optical drive of your computer. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the latest drivers for the router.
