Full Answer

Before beginning the installation process, make sure to have the modem and its power adapter, a yellow Ethernet cable, green telephone cord, DSL filters and the installation guide. Users will also need a computer.

  1. Install the filters
  2. Install a DSL filter on each telephone jack in the home.

  3. Find a place for the modem
  4. Place the modem in an area with good air circulation, away from things such as computer monitors, reflective surfaces and windows.

  5. Connect the power cord
  6. Connect the power cord to the back of the modem. Modems without a power button will turn on automatically when the power cord is connected. If the modem has a power button, turn it on after plugging it in.

  7. Connect the cords and cables
  8. Plug in the green phone cable and the yellow Ethernet cable. Do not connect the green cord to the modem port labeled Phone. Cables connected properly will result in the lights around the Ethernet port lighting up.

  9. Double check the connections
  10. Double check the connections. The "Power" light should be on as well as the DSL light, Internet light and the Ethernet port number light.

  11. Activate service
  12. Open a web browser on the computer and a welcome screen should appear. Click the green button that says Next to continue. Follow the system directions through the remainder of the process.
