YourTel Wireless provides wireless phone services in seven states to low-income individuals. The company is part of a federal assistance program that serves Rhode Island, Washington and Maine, in addition to Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Illinois. A sister company to TerraCom Wireless, YourTel provides Lifeline cell phones and wireless minutes at subsidized prices for those who qualify.
YourTel's standard plan, the Lifeline Plan 250, gives qualified customers 250 free monthly airtime minutes. Text messages are part of the plan and are counted as one minute of service per text for either sending or receiving. The company also has an unlimited plan that gives users unlimited calling and texting for less than $4 per month, as of 2015. Additionally, customers can add value to their plans in $5 increments. The company does not, however offer data plans.
The Lifeline 1000 plan allows users 1,000 talk and text minutes for $1 per month, with text messages counting as one minute of calling each. However, the 1000 plan is only available in Oklahoma, and it only applies to domestic calls and texts.
To qualify for YourTel services, individuals must already be enrolled in a state or federal assistance program, or their household income must be at or under 135 to 150 percent of the poverty level based on state and federal guidelines.
