Annie's Mailbox is an online life advice column in which columnists Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar respond to questions readers send them via email or mail. The questions they answer commonly relate to romantic relationships, friendships or family situations, although they also offer advice on other topics, such as health issues and work-related concerns. As of 2015, their responses to questions appear in blog format on both Creators.com and ArcaMax.com.
In addition to advice from the two columnists of Annie's Mailbox, question senders also receive input on their situations from other readers in the comment section of the blog. The commentators are sometimes in agreement with the advice that Mitchell and Sugar provide, but at other times they express strong disagreement and offer different advice.
Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar, the writers of Annie's Mailbox, both previously worked for columnist Eppie Lederer at the Chicago Sun-Times. Lederer succeeded Ruth Crowley in writing a popular advice column under the pen name Ann Landers. Mitchell began as a typist for Lederer and later went on to become her personal assistant and office manager. In these roles, she assisted with research for Lederer's column, scheduled her for events and handled public relations.
Sugar started her work for Lederer as a clerical worker and progressed to working alongside Mitchell to help schedule Lederer for speaking events. She holds a degree in mass communications.
