Full Answer

When entering a word in the search box, type a search term specific enough to return the type of items you want. A generic term, such as "shirts," likely returns several results that don't match the desired outcome. The Advanced search option can help narrow the results if a general search term returns too many results. Click Advanced from the search results page to add search parameters to narrow the results.

The Advanced search screen includes options such as price, condition, selling format, location and shipping options. The screen allows a search of specific sellers. In the keyword area, add words to exclude from the search, or choose a specific category. The Advanced option also allows users to search the title and description, completed listings and sold listings.

If you don't find a specific item immediately, following the search allows you to see listings as they are added. To see results for searches you follow, click Interests You Follow on the left side of the screen while logged into your eBay account. To receive emails when new auctions match the search, click Notification Preferences and check Email New Items to Me while looking at the search.
