How Do You Take a Screenshot?

Both the Windows and Mac operating systems have built-in tools that allow you to take screenshots. Open the screen you want to capture, and use the built-in operating system tools to take the screenshot.

  1. Open the screen you wish to capture

Before taking the screenshot, open the application or interface you wish to capture. Both Windows and Mac users have the option of capturing the entire screen or part of the screen.

  2. Enable the screenshot tool

To enable the screenshot tool in Windows, enter the phrase "Snipping Tool" into the search box in Windows. Click on the result to launch the application. On a Mac, press the Command, Shift and 4 keys.

  3. Select the area you wish to capture

Once the screenshot tool launches, use your mouse to drag and select the part of the screen you wish to capture. If you are using Windows and want to capture the entire screen, press the Control key and the Print Screen button on your keyboard. To capture the entire screen on your Mac, press the Command, Shift and 3 keys on your keyboard.

  4. Save your screenshot

If you are a Mac user, the screenshot is automatically saved on your desktop. If you are on Windows, click the Save Snip button to save the screenshot as an image file.
