To get rid of spyware in Windows 7, download and install a spyware removal utility that can operate in Safe Mode, such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Boot Windows 7 into Safe Mode with Networking, and use the threat scan function of the utility to detect and remove spyware.
- Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Use your Web browser to navigate to the Malwarebytes home page, and select the Free Version Download option. Once the download is complete, double-click on the executable file, and follow the installation wizard instructions to complete the process.
- Boot Windows 7 into Safe Mode with Networking
Click on the Start button, hover over the arrow next to the Shut Down button, and select Restart. Before the Windows logo appears, press and hold the F8 key. Once the Advanced Option screen activates, select the Safe Mode with Networking option, and press Enter.
- Use the threat scan function to remove spyware
Once Windows 7 is in Safe Mode, click on the Start button, and select the All Programs option. Click on the Malwarebytes folder, and select Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Before proceeding, click on the Update Now button to update the malware database. Click on the Scan tab, select the Threat Scan option, and click on the Scan Now button. Once the scanning process is complete, mark every suspicious entry by selecting the Quarantine option from the drop-down menu in the Action column. Click on Apply Actions, and restart your computer once the threats are quarantined.
