To restart the print spooler service in Windows Vista and newer versions of the Windows operating system, access the Services section on the Administrative Tools page, select the service, and click on the Restart link. Alternatively, save your current work, and restart the computer to start the service again.
Before proceeding with this process, make sure that you’re logged in as the administrator. To access the Administrative Tools page, click on the Start button, and select the Control Panel option. Click on the System and Maintenance link if you’re using Windows Vista, or the System and Security link if you’re using Windows 7, and click on the Administrative Tools link. Once the page opens, double-click on the Services shortcut in the list of tools.
Navigate to the Print Spooler entry in the list of services, click on it, and click on the Restart link. If that doesn’t work, right-click on the service, and select the Stop option from the drop-down menu. Once the system stops the service, right-click on it again, and select the Start option. To avoid problems with the print spooler service without having to restart it, right-click on the service, click on Properties, select the Automatic option from the drop-down menu next to the Startup Type option, and click OK. If the User Account Control prompt appears, click Yes to confirm the modification.
