Uninstall the WhiteSmoke toolbar from your installed programs, or reset your browser to remove the WhiteSmoke virus. You need a Windows-based computer to get started.
- Open the Control Panel
Click the Start button in Windows 7, and select Control Panel from the Start menu. In Windows 8, press the "Win" and "Q" keys to bring up the global search menu. Type "control panel" in the search field, and press Enter.
- Uninstall the WhiteSmoke toolbar
Locate the Program section in the Control Panel, and select Uninstall Programs. Scroll down the list until you see the WhiteSmoke toolbar. Click the Uninstall/Change button, and uninstall the toolbar. Wait for Windows to remove the toolbar from the system. If you do not see the toolbar, reset your browser to remove the infection.
- Reset your browser
In Firefox, click the Menu button in the top-right corner of the browser. Click the question mark icon in the pop-up menu, and select Troubleshooting Information. Click the Reset Firefox button to start the process. Select everything, and click Reset. In Chrome, click the Menu button in the top-right corner, and select Settings. Click Show Advanced Settings, and click the Reset Browser Settings button. Reset the browser. In Internet Explorer, click the gear icon, and go to Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab, and click the Reset button. Follow the on-screen prompts.
