  1. Back up your data

    Before you reinstall XP, insert a USB flash drive or a blank CD into your disc tray. Copy all of your important photos, documents and video files to the drive or disc. Alternatively, upload your documents to Dropbox or a similar cloud-hosting storage service.

  2. Insert the XP disc

    Open your computer disc tray, and insert the Windows XP disc. Close the tray, and restart the computer.

  3. Boot to CD

    During the restart, press any key to boot from the CD. If you see the Windows logo, restart the computer, and try again.

  4. Reinstall Windows XP

    Press Enter when the Welcome to Setup screen appears. Press "F8" to agree to the license agreement. Select your current XP installation in the list, and press the "R" key. Follow the on-screen prompts to continue the new XP installation.
