How Do You Reduce the File Size of a PDF?

To reduce the file size of a PDF, print the file using Adobe PDF as the printer, select the smallest file size option under the Default Settings menu and click OK on all open dialog boxes. The PDF is then converted to a smaller file. Upon completion, save the new file.

  1. Open the current PDF file

    Open the current PDF file, and select the print option.

  2. Convert the document

    Select Adobe PDF as the printer name, then click on the Properties tab. Select the smallest file size option. Click OK on all open windows to confirm. This begins the conversion process.

  3. Save the new PDF

    Upon completion, Adobe PDF prompts you to save the file. Save the file under a different file name if you desire to retain a copy of the original file.
