Read Theory is an online educational tool that features more than 1,000 reading comprehension exercises through which students learn to infer the meanings of words from context and improve their vocabulary. It adapts the reading experience and exercises to the students’ skill levels, making it suitable for all ages.
Read Theory monitors the progress of each student and provides a detailed insight into her grades. Through continued use of the tool, it matches the presented materials to the progress that students make and gradually introduces new materials that are more advanced. The complexity of the exercises ranges from reading at an elementary-school level to SAT- and GRE-level verbal reasoning and reading comprehension. Professional educators who are a part of the Read Theory program create original texts that they refine and test for educational purposes.
To add an element of fun and make the program more motivational, Read Theory includes game mechanics through which students can track their reading levels, the number of quizzes they passed and overall points. As of 2015, Read Theory plans to add achievement badges to the website, while it already allows teachers to create contests based on the accrued points. The program also allows teachers to provide detailed instructions to each student individually and provides them with access to a progress report section that includes graphs, charts and various statistics.
