Rai International TV, known as Rai Italia 1, was launched on January 1, 1992. RAI, Italy?s national broadcaster, owns the television station through its subsidiary RAI Internatiozionale. The parent company began its regular television service on January 3, 1954.
Rai Italia 1 works under an agreement established with the Italian government with the purpose of developing its public service presence in international television and radio broadcasting. Under this agreement, the television station strives to meet demands for services and information from Italian communities in the United States. Rai Italia is broadcasting through satellite on Dish Network. It is also available through Verizon FiOs, AT&T U-verse, and Optimum cable services.
