To print from a phone, either download an app from the printer's manufacturer or use cloud services to print to any Internet-connected printer. Some printers are connected to an e-mail account that allows a user to send documents remotely to that e-mail to print at a later time.
Most wireless-enabled printers have a compatible free app for iOS, Windows and Android devices. Canon makes available the PIXMA Printing Solutions app that allows users to print and scan documents directly from their phone. Lexmark provides the Lexmark Mobile Printing app, which supports printing directly to any printer connected to the business or home network.
Google offers a cloud service called Google Cloud Print that works with any Google Cloud Print-enabled printer or a printer that is connected to a Google account through the computer. Once the printer is connected to the user's Google account, the Google Cloud Print app needs to be installed on the device being used to print. Any document or web page then has the option to be shared to the app in order to be printed. Other programs, such as Dropbox and Evernote, provide the opportunity to upload documents to the cloud and share them among multiple devices.
