It is not possible to get a free copy of Office XP. As the software bundle is a copyrighted product of Microsoft, acquiring it for free falls under software piracy and is a punishable crime. Moreover, Microsoft no longer sells Office XP.
As of 2015, Office 365 is the latest version of the office suite. Although it is a paid software, Microsoft also offers a free trial that lasts for a month. The trial includes fully-featured Office applications and 1 terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage and allows installation on up to five computers and five mobile devices. Once the trial ends, subscribers must pay a monthly fee.
Individual software piracy offenders may receive fines up to $93,500 and five years in prison. In the case of a company committing the crime, the fines may go up to $467,500.
