A phone can be found on iCloud by visiting the iCloud site as long as it has been registered beforehand. Once on the iCloud page, a green dot shows the approximate location of the device.
In order to use iCloud to find a missing phone, the device must have been online in the last 24 hours. An offline mobile device will appear on the map until it is back online. The following steps describe how to use the site:
- Visit the iCloud website
- Click "All Devices"
- Look for the green dot
Go to the iCloud website and click on the "Find My iPhone" option.
Once in the menu, click on "All Devices." This brings up a map of each device registered in iCloud.
A green dot shows the approximate location of the device and means it is online and within range of a WiFi network. If a gray dot appears, the location of the device will disappear within 24 hours and will not reappear until the device is back online.
Once the device is found on the map, users can zoom in or out to find the phone's exact location. The iCloud map is run by third-party software and may not be available at all times.
