As of 2015, Motorola exclusively manufactures Droid phones for Verizon Wireless. The premiere partnership started in 2013 with the Droid family of products, including the Droid Plus, Droid Ultra Maxx and the Droid Ultra Mini. Verizon has also teamed up with Motorola during the launching of the original Droid smartphone.
Many manufacturers also build exclusive phones for Verizon, but the Motorola Droid smartphone and the name "Droid" remains a Verizon franchise.
Exclusivity deals between carriers and phone vendors provide plenty of benefits to both parties. The manufacturer is guaranteed a certain amount of marketing support from the carrier, while the carrier procures an exclusive and unique product that gets costumers to shop in their stores.
