To open an XLR file, start Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc and open it through the File menu. If that doesn’t work, change the .xlr extension to .xls, making it possible for Microsoft Excel to open the file natively. Alternatively, use an online conversion service, such as Zamzar.com.
Right-click on the XLR file, and click Open. Select the first option to have Windows automatically search for an application that can run the file, or use the option below it to manually select the executable file of the appropriate application. If none of the options work, make the file extensions visible, and modify the .xlr extension. In Windows 7, click on the Start button, type “folder” in the search field, and click on Folder Options. Open the View tab, uncheck the box next to the Hide Extensions for Known File Types option, and click OK. Right-click on the XLR file, select the Rename option, replace the .xlr extension with .xls, and press Enter.
To convert the file into a usable format via an online service, navigate to Zamzar.com, click on the Choose Files button, and select the XLR file you wish to convert. Since XLR is a spreadsheet format, select the XLS or XLSX option as the output format. Enter your email address, and click Convert. Once the conversion process completes, you should receive the converted file through your email service, allowing you to open the file in Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc.
