As of December 2015, online reservations, location search and title search are a few of the online services offered by Redbox. Redbox Instant, the online video streaming service offered by the popular video kiosk company, shut down in October of 2014.
Redbox offers online reservations of movies and games available via its kiosks on Redbox.com. Users reserve a title online, and then use a kiosk's touchscreen to claim it by touching the button labeled Reservation Pickup. It is not possible to cancel an online reservation. If users do not pick up their reservations, they are charged by Redbox for one rental day. Redbox sends users an e-mail confirming reservations, which must be picked up by 9:00 p.m. the night of the reservation.
Redbox also offers a location search tool online, which allows users to find the kiosk closest to them by searching their address in a search box or using a map. The Redbox library is also searchable online on Redbox.com.
From 2013 until October of 2014, Redbox, in partnership with Verizon, also offered an online video streaming service called Redbox Instant, which cost $6 a month. Redbox executives cited weak movie releases over the summer of 2014 as one reason the service did not survive.
