An area that has advanced nearly every scientific industry with just the introduction of multitasking is the streamlining of peripherals. Prior to multitasking, doctors, robots, video games, and virtually any field or job that utilized a device hooked up to a computer became much easier to use. Initially, the computer would have to "pause" any task it was working on if it needed to receive or send an input to a connected device. Once multitasking became a reality, pausing tasks was no longer necessary.
Multitasking not only benefits people; it also impacts Internet traffic, GPS devices, data storage devices and many other types of electronics. As more and more data is stored and retrieved, tasks must be done faster and in larger volume. In a globally connected world, multitasking is essential.
