A monochrome laser printer is a laser printer that only prints black, but it is generally faster and produces higher-quality printouts than an inkjet printer. Monochrome printers are used primarily to produce letters and other documents, which makes them more common in business environments.
Laser printers create sharper type because the toner in the laser cartridges fuses with the paper. With an inkjet printer, the ink gets absorbed into the paper, creating a slightly blurry character. According to PC Mag, laser printers also do a better job of printing black-and-white photos than an inkjet printer for the same reason. Most laser printers print at least a newspaper-quality photo.
