The number of ports a computer has depends on the type of motherboard it uses. A computer typically has two PS/2 ports for the mouse and keyboard, several DVI, VGA or HDMI ports to connect it to a display device, multiple USB ports, one Ethernet and multiple audio ports.
As of 2015, modern types of motherboards and computer cases support USB and audio ports on the front. USB ports have replaced parallel and printer ports that were used to connect printers and peripherals such as digital cameras in the past. VGA ports have been replaced by the more common DisplayPort and HDMI ports. Some computers use FireWire and Thunderbolt ports, the latter of which allows for great transfer speeds.
