The Kindle series of e-book readers and tablets are manufactured by Foxconn, the trading name for Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. The products are designed and marketed by Amazon.
Foxconn is based in Tucheng, New Taipei, Taiwan, though it produces the components for the Kindle throughout Asia. It is the largest electronics contract manufacturer in the world and ranked just behind Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc. in terms of worldwide revenue by information technology companies as of 2014. Being a contract manufacturer, Foxconn also makes e-readers and tablets for rivals of Amazon, including Apple. It also builds the video game systems PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.
