Foxconn Technology Group—also known as the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.—is the manufacturer of Amazon Kindle products. Foxconn's headquarters are in Taiwan. Foxconn is the largest electronics contractor manufacturer in the world.
The Kindle's electrophoretic display is made in Taiwan. Its flex circuit connectors, injection-molded case, controller board and Lithium-polymer battery are made in China. The wireless card is made in South Korea.
The Kindle is an e-book reader. The first generation of the Kindle was released in 2007. In 2011, Amazon created an LCD version called the Kindle Fire, which was an Android-based tablet. More recent Fire tablets have dropped the Kindle name, but Kindle is still actively developed, as of 2015.
