The division sign is considered a symbol in Microsoft Word. To insert a division sign, you must access the symbol menu. The process takes less than a minute.
Place the cursor
Make sure the blinking cursor is placed where you want to put the division symbol.
Click the "Insert" menu
Locate the "Insert" menu at the top of the screen, next to "File," "Home" and "Page Layout." Click "Insert."
Open the "Symbols" menu
After the "Insert" menu drops down, select "Symbols." The pop-up box provides a chart of all available symbols in Microsoft Word.
Locate the division symbol
The division symbol may not be visible on the symbol chart. Use the scroll bar to search the chart, or click on "More Symbols" if the division symbol still does not appear.
Click on the division symbol
After locating the division symbol, click on it.
Click "Insert Symbol"
Click "Insert Symbol" to make it appear in the document.
Verify proper insertion
Close the "Symbol" box and verify the division symbol has been inserted properly.
