Data available for viewing on the American FactFinder website, FactFinder.Census.gov, includes information about population, age breakdown, total housing units, poverty level percentages and income for any town, state, county, city or zip code in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. island territories. Additional information provided by a search includes facts on education, governments, number of veterans, the percentage residents of a specific race or of Hispanic origins, and the number of businesses within the search area.
The site offers a community facts search, a guided search, an advanced search and a download center that offers pre-packaged datasets and information presented in tables. Popular tables include annual population estimates, demographic and housing estimates, general housing characteristics, general demographic characteristics, and general economic characteristics. The site also features tables that includes information about age, sex, race and education such as those on educational attainment and selected social characteristics. Additional information provided includes annual surveys of government, housing surveys, economic surveys, Equal Employment Opportunity tabulations and reference maps which show geographic boundaries and area roads.
The American FactFinder is run by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau. The site stores data from the previous two censuses due to the large storage required.
