The current version of Java is supported in Windows 8.1 and is available for free download from Java. Although Java supports Windows 8.1, it only runs in the Desktop screen and not the Start screen's Metro interface.
The free Java download allows users to run software coded using the Java programming language. It is the second-most commonly used programming language. Many websites, applications and games require Java to function. It was developed by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995. In 2010, Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Microsystems and is responsible for the maintenance and update of the Java developer tools and Java Runtime Environment.
