J2EE stands for Java 2 Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition of Java is used primarily for complex server applications covering multiple facets of business with many different users. The name was changed from J2EE in 2006 to Java EE, and the program is in its seventh iteration as of 2014.
Java EE includes a full suite for several API specifications, including everything from email and Web services to RMI, XML and servlets. A Java EE application server manages the transactions, security and concurrency of these tasks, allowing developers to focus on compatibility, design and function rather than the infrastructure of their applications.
