The Find My iPhone application locates and protects your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Mac computer if lost or stolen. To download Find My iPhone, go to the App Store on your device, click on Apps Made by Apple, select Find My iPhone and tap download.
When using Find My iPhone, login with your iCloud credentials from any computer. After logging in, you can view the location of your device on a map, use the Lost Mode to lock and track your device until you find it, play a loud sound, and remotely erase all of your personal information. Find My iPhone relies on collecting location data from third parties and might not be available in every geographic area.
If you linked your iCloud account with Family Sharing, you can find and remotely protect family members' iPhone, iPod touch or iPad devices. Family Sharing is a feature that allows up to six people in your family to share purchased content and location settings.
Devices using iOS 7 or later include the Activation Lock feature. Activation Lock extends the protection of Find My iPhone and prevents anyone from accessing your device when Find My iPhone is disabled.
Find My iPhone debuted in June 2010. According to Apple, the app is available to download for free on any iOS device running version 5.0 or later, as of 2015.
