An iOS device is a device using the iOS mobile operating system created by Apple, such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod. The iOS operating system is typically upgraded with the release of new iPhone models and is currently on iOS 8, as of 2015.
The iOS debuted with the original iPhone under the name iPhone OS, but was renamed in 2010 to reflect its use in other Apple devices. The iOS is unique to Apple products and has built-in support for Apple's other products, such as iTunes Radio and iCloud, and it is required in order to use the Apple App Store. Major competitor's products use either Google's Android, Windows mobile OS or Blackberry OS.
