iOS 5 is the fifth iteration of Apple's iOS mobile operating system. It was available for installation and use on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and it was released on Sept. 19, 2012.
iOS 5 was announced and previewed at the 2011 Worldwide Developer's Conference on June 6, 2011. It included notable new features, including the ability to access iCloud, Apple's cloud-based storage service, and the ability to send messages over Wi-Fi via the iMessage service. It also consisted of a number of bug fixes, security improvements and connection capabilities, such as the ability to sync a mobile device to a computer over a Wi-Fi connection.
