As of 2015, the XBMC Media Center application is available on the Google Play Store for Android devices as the Kodi media center application. The Kodi application changes the Android device to a media player that can play digital media designed for home theater personal computers. The application also includes a graphical user interface that streamlines the user experience by making it simple to access digital media files from various data sources, such as a hard drive or Internet.
The Kodi application does not include any playable media content as part of its base download and require users to either prepare their own content source or install an application plug-in from a third party. The application includes two graphical display skin alternatives, which are re-Touched and Confluence. The re-Touched skin is design to make the application more compatible with tablets or larger smartphones. Kodi is not recommended for use on smaller sized phones due to its interface.
Prior to its rerelease under the Kodi application name, XBMC was not available for Android devices directly from the Google Play Store. Users needed to find the XBMC application file on the Internet and manually change their Android settings to install the program.
