To install a Belkin wireless router, connect the router to the modem, insert the startup disc that came with the router, and follow the instructions that appear as part of the setup wizard. Once complete, this method automatically sets up the wireless security encryption and other necessary settings. If you don’t have the startup disc, install the router manually by accessing the Router Setup page via a Web browser.
Before establishing a connection between your modem and Belkin router, disconnect the modem from its power source, connect the two devices using an Ethernet cable, plug the modem back into the power source, and then do the same for the router. Once both devices are powered on, open a Web browser, type “192.168.2.1” in the address bar, and press Enter to access the Router Setup page.
Click on the Login link. Leave the Password field blank, because a password is not necessary during initial setup. Click Submit. In the Internet WAN section, click on Connection Type, select the appropriate connection type, and click Next. If you don’t know what connection type to select, ask your Internet service provider for the necessary information. Type the information into the appropriate fields after selecting a connection type, and click Apply Changes. If the installation process was successful, the Internet Status section should display the Connected message.
