The Panasonic DMR-EX83 and the Panasonic DMR-EX79 are both highly reviewed HD DVD recorders on TrustedReviews.com as of 2016, and the Panasonic DMR-EX773 is highly reviewed on Tech Radar. Of the three, the Panasonic DMR-EX83 is the most highly rated. Tech Radar gives it nine out of 10, particularly highlighting its ease of use and picture quality.
The Tech Radar review states that Panasonic HD DVD players get better by the year, and five years after the release of the EX83, Panasonic increased the space on its hard drives from 250GB to 500GB. One complaint of the earlier models was that they didn't have twin tuners. The two tuners on the DMR-EX-7EB allows users to record two programs at once.
Panasonic players have Freeview plus, which means users can record and rewind their favorite programs. In addition, the Panasonic websites states the DMR-EX 97EB has a recording function that remembers to record favorite TV series.
The Freeview plus, however, is just a basic function of most Panasonic machines. The DMR-HWT150EB has Freeview Play, which means users can watch their favorite shows when they are ready and without having to manually record them. The machine also allows users to access their Netflix and Amazon Instant Video accounts.
