The recipes on several of these top websites, including AllRecipes.com, Cooks.com and Food.com, come from the user community, leaving the quality of some of the recipes as questionable. In contrast, FoodNetwork.com and Epicurious.com only publish recipes from professional or celebrity chefs. Yummly.com simply collects recipes from other websites and publishes them with a link back to the contributing website.
AllRecipes.com gets top billing for the amenities it offers to its members. Users can save recipes into a virtual recipe box, plan, save and print weekly menus and print out shopping lists of the ingredients from the menus. In addition, users can edit recipes on the fly to change the serving sizes or make changes to the recipes to suit personal preferences. The website also offers a cooking school and a paid membership program.
