Microsoft decided to replace Windows Address Book functionality with Windows Contacts in Windows 8, and it has been using the latter since the release of Windows Vista. Windows Contacts includes all the features of Windows Address Book, and users can choose to add pictures for individual contacts.
Unlike Windows Address Book, Windows Contacts stores contacts as individual files instead of storing them in a local database. To access the list of contacts in Windows 8, a user needs to activate the Run dialog box by pressing R while holding down the Alt key, type ?wab.exe? in the field, and click OK. Unless users imported contacts from previous versions of Windows, the Windows Contacts folder should be empty.
