To get a Google Voice phone number, visit the Google Voice website, sign in with your Google account, click Get a Voice Number, and follow the prompts. If you do not have a Google account, create one before proceeding.
Once you sign into Google Voice, choose I Want a New Number from the prompts. Search for a new Google number from the options, select an available number, and click Continue. Choose a PIN to use to access your Google Voice Settings and to retrieve messages from any mobile phone. Next, enter a forwarding phone number, which is the number of the phone that rings when someone calls your Google Voice number. To verify your phone, click the Call Me Now button, which appears along with a numeric code on your phone. Receive the call from Google, and enter the code on the screen to verify your forwarding phone.
If you use Google Voice Lite and want to add a Google Voice number to your account, go to the Phones tab under Google Voice Settings, click the Get a Google Number link, and follow the prompts.
After setting up your Google Voice number, you can receive a call on all your phones and forward calls to transcribed voice mail whenever you are unavailable.
